Its expression is calm and slightly playful, somewhere between realism and imagination, as if the wood itself slowly revealed a character already living inside it.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e“Happy Spirit” was created as one of my early explorations into more realistic sculptural carving using basswood, a wood traditionally appreciated for its softness, fine texture, and ability to capture subtle details. Rather than focusing on ornamentation, this piece was an exercise in expression, form, and presence.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEvery curve and facial feature was shaped slowly by hand using traditional carving tools, allowing the sculpture to develop naturally through the carving process itself. Small asymmetries and tool marks remain part of the piece, preserving its handmade character and individuality.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCarved from \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ebasswood\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, the sculpture carries a light, organic warmth and a smooth surface that enhances facial details and expression.
