Story

Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor, is one of the most recognizable symbols from Norse mythology. Traditionally associated with protection, strength and the power to defend what matters, the hammer has long carried a strong symbolic presence.

I wanted to reinterpret Mjolnir entirely in wood, combining the shape of Thor’s hammer with the complete Elder Futhark rune alphabet. I carved each rune individually around the hammer, treating the runes not only as letters, but also as decorative symbols, each carrying its own meaning.

At the centre of the hammer, I added the Helm of Awe, or Ægishjálmr, a symbol traditionally associated with protection, strength and resilience. For me, bringing these elements together creates a piece that combines the symbolism of Mjolnir, the meanings of the runes and the protective character of the Helm of Awe.

I see the runes as a symbolic and decorative language, leaving their interpretation open to the person who wears the pendant. Different people can connect with the same symbols in completely different ways, giving the piece a personal meaning of their own.

About My Carvings

Each pendant is carved individually from a carefully selected piece of wood using hand carving tools. The natural grain, colour and small variations make every carving different from the next, so no two pieces can ever be exactly alike.

Each piece is designed to be light and comfortable to wear, and can also become a meaningful gift, whether for someone special or simply for yourself.
